voor hem of haar zijn ze het echte klachten; voor deze klachten is geen specifieke pathologie te vinden. Andere termen: mind-body aandoening; psychofysiologische aandoening; somatoforme aandoening; “self-induced illness”; psychogene aandoening; medisch onverklaarde aandoening - MUS: Medical Unexplained Symptoms; BD: body distress.

3 Uit de literatuur Disorders characterized by somatic complaints for which no organic cause could be demonstrated Usually result from emotional factors Involve the organ system innervated by the autonomic nervous system Physiologic changes accompany emotional responses that are intense Symptoms are physiological rather than symbolic, the emotions beings expressed through the viscera Persistent psychosomatic reactions may produce structural organic changes over time The somatic symptoms afford generous secondary gains for the for the patients in terms of attention

Dokters hebben het over “aandoening” en “genezen”, patiënten over “ziekte” en “helen”. Het eerste is medisch wetenschappelijk, het tweede verhalend, zingevend en cultureel bepaald. Werkzame elementen: Cultureel krachige metaforen en symbolen; Prestige van de heler; Sociale interacties met verwanten en anderen uit de gemeenschap tijdens voorbereiding en uitvoering van de heling; Het helingsritueel; Persoonlijke overtuigingen, waarden, attitudes en gevoelens.

De “helende” relatie tussen zieke en heler, patiënt en arts: Cognitieve factoren (diagnose, bewezen werkzaamheid (EBM), werkingsmechanisme, enz.); Emotionele factoren (in goede, liefdevolle en bekwame handen voelen); Gedrag van de heler (manier van kijken, stiltes, bedachtzaamheid, enz.); Gedrag van de zieke/patiënt (zorg vragen/toelaten, compliance, bewondering, enz.); Zintuiglijke factoren (geur, licht, enz.); Omstandigheden (verzorgd, armoedig, professioneel, details opvoering van ritueel, enz.); Symbolische factoren (naalden, diploma’s, enz.).

Er wordt gedurende een maand drie keer per dag gemeten. D.w.z. drie maal dertig keer meetwaarden tussen minimaal 0 en maximaal 40 punten. Over een maand wordt dat mimimaal 0 en maximaal 3600 punten.
