Failure of treatment Poor compliance with treatment, especially inhaled corticosteroids, continues to be an important cause of poor asthma control and much effort is needed to ensure that patients understand why prophylactic treatment needs to be taken regularly and the dangers of poor compliance. Particular care is needed for patients who are more likely to be non-compliant such as adolescents, the poor and socially deprived, and patients with psychosocial problems.
