Biocentrisch altruism: universal respect Biocentrism: All life is precious: never underestimate the intrinsic value (the opposite of use value) of living beings Dignity and respect for all life The basic right of living and sentient beings: Sentient beings have the right not to be used as merely means to our ends (basic and luxury needs) Living beings have the right not to be killed for luxury needs. This results into voluntary simplicity (sobriety) and veganism.

Biocentric altruism: Universal respect Respect for diversity: between humans, cultures, species, ecosystems,… Diversity has intrinsic value -> Protect biodiversity and indigenous people. All species have equal intrinsic value -> Protect vulnerable, endangered species.

De moeilijkheid in de strijd om leven te redden: Effectieve geweldloosheid 1) Onderschat nooit de slechtheid van geweld. Geweld is leven kwetsen, doden of beschadigen, denken of spreken met haat of minachting, eigendom beschadigen of vernietigen, een persoon beledigen, ergeren of provoceren, het risico op negatieve gevolgen verhogen of het afzien van het geven van hulp aan bedreigd leven.

Effectieve geweldloosheid 2) Onderschat nooit de goedheid van het beschermen van leven. We moeten bescheiden blijven bij het beoordelen van de toegestane hoeveelheid van geweld van onze acties.

Effectieve geweldloosheid 3) Streef naar effectiviteit en geweldloosheid. Als beide idealen niet verzoenbaar lijken te zijn, dan moeten we ons laten gidsen door ons gevoel van medelevende, universele liefde. Dit houdt in dat we altijd zowel slachtoffers als daders moeten benaderen met het gevoel alsof het onze beste vrienden zijn, wat ze ook doen.

Effectieve geweldloosheid 4) Bescherm het morele zelf van daders. Het morele zelf is het meest waardevolle aspect van een mens. Iets immoreel doen beschadigt het morele zelf. Universele liefde vereist dat we slachtoffers beschermen, maar ook dat we daders bevrijden en genezen van morele zelfvernietiging. Verzoening is zelden te verzoenen met geweld
