5/23/2019 Agreements on identification of River Basin District for Scheldt. Within this commission the ‘Scaldit’-project has been started at the beginning of this year. It is an Interreg-project towards the WFD, a pilot river basin project that aims at the application of the EU guidances. The main focus of the project is the Scheldt river basin. But the project partners agreed to apply the developed methodologies also on the added river basins constituting the river basin district of the Scheldt. Both the river basin and the river basin district are shown on this map. Scheldebekken totaal 21.8630 km2 Scheldestroomgebiedsdistrict 37.170 km2 (Seinebekken 79.000 km2) Opp. Vl. 5/23/2019 Scaldit means Scaldis Integrated Testing or “From collective testing to a transnational river basin district of the Scheldt as a basis for a transnational integrated water management for a cleaner and safer Scheldt.” Scaldit stands for Scaldis (= Latin for Scheldt) and Integrated Testing, because the WFD guidance documents will be tested in the Scheldt river basin district. The full name of the project is: From collective testing to a transnational analysis of the international river basin district of the Scheldt as a basis for a transnational integrated water management for a cleaner and safer Scheldt. Scaldit is a transnational project regarding the whole river basin from source to estuary. It has a duration of 3 years, starting from 1st January until 31 December 2005. The project is funded by the EU Interreg III Community Initiative. Interreg III aims at strengthening trans-European co-operation and promoting balanced development and European integration. Strand B is specifically devoted to transnational co-operation. Scaldit was introduced under the priority on Water resources and the prevention of flood damages.
