4 Situation You are active in an international students’ organization. English is the ‘lingua franca’. There is a social event every six weeks. At these events you discuss topics that are in the news – the theme this week is ‘what a blooper’. Each of you has selected a news item from the English edition of his or her national newspaper. You come together and discuss your findings. And hopefully, have a good laugh every now and then…

5 Assignment for 4 students + 1 camera person teamwork roleplay Tip: European national newspapers have translated sections. Just click on the flag of your allocated country (see final page).

6 »Assignment: 1. As a group decide which of you has to assume which nationality. Choose between French, Spanish, German and English.. 2. Now each of you has to do invidual research into the national newspapers of your allocated country. For relevant links: see next page. Select articles about ‘bloopers’, or events that have occurred as the result of some ‘stupidity’. You may interpret this widely…Print sections that seem relevant. 3. Think of a possible joke you could make, or a witty remark about the event of your choice. 4. Set a date and time for the recording of your group conversation. Find a fifth student willing to act as camera- man 5. The conversation may be recorded onto video (or cassette), or be performed in class.
