Echter het toenemen van de vraag naar semi-geschoolde werknemers en de afname naar vraag van niet-geschoolde werknemers, heeft ervoor gezorgd dat het aantal werknemers in deze sector over 10 jaar drastisch gedaald is (van 429.649 in 1991 naar 197.091 in 2000). Wat zou kunnen worden gedaan om deze mensen toch weer aan het werk te krijgen (de werkeloosheid is namelijk heel hoog in Zuid-Afrika)?

15 Stellingen Is het niet verstandig dat Zuid Afrika minder gaat exporteren en meer van de grondstoffen zelf gaat gebruiken om industrieën op te zetten?

16 Stellingen Moet men in Zuid Afrika meer rekening houden met het milieu bij de exploitatie van mijnen of moet men zich in eerste instantie richten op het economisch belang?
