4 1. Epidemiologie prostaatkanker

5 1. Oorzaken prostaatkanker
zowel erfelijke als omgevingsfactoren (vooral de eetgewoonten) - De frequentie van prostaatkanker is hoger bij Europeanen en Amerikanen, en lager bij Aziatische bevolkingsgroepen zoals Japanners, Chinezen . - Bij emigratie naar de Westerse landen en overnemen van Westerse eetgewoonten, verhoogt hun risico. - De Westerse voeding is rijk aan dierlijk vet en proteïnen en arm aan vezels, dit in tegenstelling tot de Aziatische gemeenschappen met een voeding op basis van zetmeel, groenten, vruchten met een hoog vezelgehalte en weinig dierlijke vetten. Een belangrijk verschil tussen de Westerse en Oosterse voeding is het verbruik van soja in Azië. er is ook een genetische belasting (families met hoge kankerincidentie) Dr Bruno Bamelis Kruishoutem, 16/11/11

6 2. Preventie Te mijden: Vlees (dierlijk vet) Gezond: - Fruit

7 Prostaatkanker : Preventie
“Prostaatdieet”: vijf stukken vers fruit per dag voedsel rijk aan lycopeen : gekookte tomaten (Ketchup, V8,…), watermeloen, grapefruit. voedsel rijk aan sulphoraphanes : vooral in spruiten, ook broccoli, bloemkool. look, ajuinen, prei, bieslook. 8 3. Prostaatkanker : opsporing
PSA = “Prostaat specifiek Antigeen” = bloedtest : onvolkomen test, maar toch zeer nuttig PCA-3 test = test op urine : veelbelovend, maar zeer duur (250€) Rectaal onderzoek : noodzakelijk, doch niet zeer gevoelig Transrectale echografie : nuttig maar ook niet gevoelig NMR prostaat : wordt steeds beter, resultaat sterk onderzoeker-afhankelijk, lijkt goed in uitsluiten agressieve tumoren Histoscanning : veelbelovend, in onderzoeksfase Dr Bruno Bamelis Kruishoutem, 16/11/11

10 4. Bepalen van risicogroepen

ENERGY I-125 Foton 28 KeV HVL Tissue : 0,5 cm Lead : 0,025 mm Complete protection = 10 x HVL Tissue : 5 cm Lead : 0,25 mm Here you can see the typical BARD-seed we are using. It has small dimensions, only 4.5 mm long and 0.8 mm inwidth. The ernergy of the x-rays emitted by I-125 is very low and this makes it very attractive for clinical use especially concerning the radioprotection issue. As you can see on this slide the HVL in tissue is only O.5 cm which means that 5 cm of tissue gives complete protection.
