8 Discussion 1 Did you ever ask your learners:
´What should be the objective of a math lesson?´ I did and I noticed these answers often: I will have to finish my sums and my homework I will have to do the sums / problems without mistakes It´s very sad to see, learners have this opinion

9 Discussion 2 Do you agree with this proposition:
The function of a math lesson is the fact all learners have to add something to their knowledge, their skills, their conceptual thinking. What learners do during the lesson should be recognized as helpful. Teachers are forbidden to say: `This lesson is helpful for later, when you are growned up.´ No, it is very concrete, it´s good for here and now. De functie van rekenlessen is dat alle leerlingen in elke les iets toevoegen aan hun kennis, hun vaardigheid en/of hun inzicht op het gebied van leren rekenen. Wat leerlingen meemaken en zelf doen in zo’n les, moeten zij kunnen ervaren als helpend daarbij. Niet als iets vaags als ‘dat is goed voor later’, maar heel concreet in het hier en nu. (Dolf Janson)
