Effect of symptom duration on outcomes following vitrectomy repair of primary macula-off retinal detachments. Kim JD1 et al. CONCLUSION: Surgical repair within 6 days of the symptom onset yielded better visual outcomes. After 7 days, visual outcome was not affected by the timing of the surgical repair. Anatomical outcome following pars plana vitrectomy repair is not affected by symptom duration.

Long-term visual acuity and the duration of macular detachment: findings from a prospective population-based study. Mitry D1 et al. Abstract CONCLUSIONS: the majority (65%) of patients with macula-off RRD successfully repaired with one operation will achieve a VA of 3/10 or better at final follow-up.  After 8 days of macular detachment, the final visual outcome may be adversely affected. Improvement in VA for up to 1 year, a finding which was not found in macula detachments of longer duration.

Chatziralli I1,2, et al Abstract RESULTS: Age <65 years, female gender, vitreomacular adhesion diameter <1500 μm, phakic lens status and epiretinal membrane absence were found as positive predictive factors for VMT resolution, while macular hole size <250 μm was significantly associated with macular hole closure at the meta-analytical level. Various complications after ocriplasmin use were reported by frequency, including mainly vitreous floaters, photopsias, visual acuity decrease, ellipsoid zone changes, subretinal fluid development, enlargement of macular hole, anterior segment changes and electroretinogram alterations. CONCLUSIONS: It is important to carefully select patients for ocriplasmin injection, taking into account the various predictive factors for VMT resolution.

SURGICAL OUTCOMES IN PATIENTS WITH MACULAR PUCKER AND GOOD PREOPERATIVE VISUAL ACUITY AFTER VITRECTOMY WITH MEMBRANE PEELING. Reilly G1, et al Abstract PURPOSE: To evaluate whether patients with macular pucker (epiretinal membrane [ERM]) and good preoperative visual acuity (20/50 or better) benefit from small-gauge pars plana vitrectomy with membrane peeling. RESULTS: One hundred and forty eyes met inclusion criteria of which 94% underwent 25-gauge vitrectomy. There was a statistically significant improvement in final vision with the mean preoperative visual acuity of 20/40 and 1-year visual acuity of 20/35. 89% in the phakic cohort developed a visually significant cataract by study end.

Graefes Arch Clin Exp Ophthalmol. 2016 Jan 8 Gas-mediated vitreomacular adhesion release with intravitral ranibizumab injections for exudative age-related macular degeneration. Kang HM1,2, et al Abstract MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective, interventional case series included a total of 23 eyes of 22 patients. The eyes were treated with intravitreal injection of 0.3 mL of perfluoropropane (C3F8) gas and concomitant intravitreal ranibizumab injection to stimulate VMA release.. RESULTS: After gas injection, 22 eyes (95.7 %) showed complete VMA release at 1 week.
