Je hebt deze opdracht naar behoren uitgevoerd als je zonder veel haperen je rol kunt spelen. Ondanks een afwijkend accent en intonatie ben je over het algemeen duidelijk genoeg om zonder moeilijkheden gevolgd te worden.

Situation You are going to work in a summer camp. One of your tasks will be organizing cultural events. You have decided to perform a one-act play. You would like your ‘actors’ to improvise on a given theme.

Assignment for students 6 with text/ approx. 4-6 students standing in the queue as ‘extras’ teamwork roleplay Tip: read the following pages for more instructions. First work with the idiom assignment!

1)Think up a list of 15 Dutch words/expressions that are associated with queuing up. Next translate these words into English. 2)Look up the translation of those words you do not know yet. Obviously, you can do this in a conventional dictionary or on internet: 3)It may also be inspiring to use the following site: This is an English – English dictionary. Type, for instance the words ‘jumping the queue’ and proceed from there. Make a so-called Word Web (see below). queuing

Instructions (1) Together first discuss the following: 1) When would people queue up in your/our country? Make a list of possible situations. 2) How would you react if you are queuing up and someone jumps the queue by pushing in front? 3) What shouts do you know to correct someone who is doing something that is not allowed? Make a list of possibilities. Keep it fairly DECENT!

Instructions (2) 2) Now together work out lines for the following roles: Person A (type of person who is always polite and proper) is already standing in the queue. Person B (restless type, chatty, tries to make light talk with everyone) joins the queue from outside. Person C (type ‘nitwit’) next joins the queue for the sake of joining; doesn’t know what the queue is all about; constantly asks stupid questions Person D (type ‘hip and cool’) carries two cell phones; conducts phone conversations in a rather loud voice, almost without stopping. Person E (type ‘practical joker’) comes with news that upsets everyone queuing up Person F (type ‘aggressive’) jumps the queue

Instructions (3) Together discuss the following: What is the setting of your play going to be? So, why are people queuing up? And where? a)What is the clue going to be? Why would people give up queuing? b)Write roles for the various characters as described on the previous page. MAKE A PROPER COPY TO HAND IN TO YOUR TEACHER! c)Find ‘props’ to dress people up, if necessary. d)Now practise. e)Make a video recording of your work. f)Watch it. g)Change what you don’t like. h)Now perform in class.
