Here we see a few examples of the most important environments: highways, functional roads (in many cases the main roads through towns, cities and industrial areas), the city roads which we find everywhere in the urban environment, residential housing areas, cycle paths and footpaths for pedestrians, and finally special road features that require a different kind of lighting such as roundabouts. Note that for all these areas there are different specifications and standards in the different countries and regions. There is not yet a consensus at European level. We do have the CEN/TR 13201-1 specification, but this has not (yet) been implemented in European standards and is at present still referred to as a 'Technical report'.
