De mortaliteit van hartfalen is hoog, zelfs bij patiënten die juist ingesteld staan op de best beschikbare medicatie. ~50 % OVERLIJDT BINNEN 5 JAAR NA DE DIAGNOSE2 Als de symptomen van hartfalen met de huidige beschikbare geneesmiddelen gestabiliseerd zijn lijkt het weer beter te gaan met de patiënt, maar de onderliggende neurohormonale disbalans is nog steeds aanwezig en leidt tot progressie van de ziekte.1 De impact van hartfalen op de patiënt is groot. 1. Alle patiënten met hartfalen, zelfs patiënten die gezien worden als asymptomatisch (NYHA-klasse I) of licht symptomatisch (NYHA- klasse II) hebben een verhoogde kans om te overlijden1 IN EEN KLINISCH ONDERZOEK MET EEN MEDIANE FOLLOW-UP VAN ~3 JAAR 34 % 42 % VAN NYHA-KLASSE I EN II PATIËNTEN OVERLEED VAN NYHA-KLASSE III EN IV PATIËNTEN OVERLEED De neurohormonale disbalans die de progressie van de ziekte veroorzaakt, is bij alle patiënten met hartfalen aanwezig.1-3 1. Plotselinge hartdood is de meest voorkomende oorzaak van cardiovasculaire (CV) mortaliteit bij hartfalen-patiënten met verminderde ejectiefractie1 ~45 % VAN CARDIOVASCULAIRE STERFGEVALLEN IS TE WIJTEN AAN PLOTSELINGE HARTDOOD*1 Licht symptomatische patiënten hebben eveneens een verhoogde kans op plotselinge hartdood, maar de totale kans op overlijden neemt toe met de NYHA-klasse.1,2 *In NYHA-klasse II - IV; ongeveer 70% van de bestudeerde patiënten behoorde tot NYHA-klasse II. 1. Ondanks verbeteringen in de zorg blijft de 1-jaars mortaliteit onder patiënten met hartfalen hoog 1 4 OP DE PATIËNTEN MET HARTFALEN OVERLIJDT BINNEN 1 JAAR NA DIAGNOSE2 Hartfalen is een complexe, chronische aandoening die wordt verergerd door neurohormonale disbalans en waarbij ook acute episodes (acuut hartfalen) optreden.
