2 Photos do not lie. We are having a wonderful time. Foto’s liegen niet! Wij hebben het heel erg naar ons zin.

3 On one of our field trips we visited a beautiful monastery. 35 Monks used to live in this monastery but only 4 remain today, which is pretty sad. They live in small apartments completely isolated from the world. Once a week they leave their little hub and communicate with other monks for only one hour, and then it is back to work connecting with the spiritual world. Marc immediately thinks, “Not a bad idea. Imagine how many books I could write!” Op een van onze dagtochtjes hebben wij een prachtig klooster bezocht. Er woonden vroeger 35 monniken in het klooster, maar er zijn er nu nog maar 4 van over gebleven. Dat is heel jammer om te zien. De monniken wonen in kleine apartementen die helemaal zijn afgesloten van de rest de wereld. Een keer per week verlaten ze hun apartement om met andere monniken te praten, maar dat is alleen maar voor een uur! Marc denkt gelijk, “Niet slecht. Bedenk eens hoeveel boeken ik dan kan schrijven!”

4 Daddy is a good teacher! The Museo dell’ Opera del Duomo is a beautiful museum that houses all the remnants of the Duomo over the centuries. Marc was especially surprised and impressed with this museum and took the opportunity to tell the story of Hercules to his daughters. On other occasions I would find the girls chatting together as they critically observed sculptures. It is so clear how appreciative they are for this opportunity. Papa is een goede leermeester! Het Museo dell’ Opera del Duomo is een prachtig museum dat allerlei voorwerpen heeft van de Duomo van vele eeuwen terug. Marc was erg verrast en onder de indruk van dit museum en vond het geweldig om zijn dochters alles over Hercules te vertellen. Op andere momenten vond ik de meiden stilletjes samen zitten en kritisch een beeld bekijken. Het is overduidelijk dat ze dankbaar zijn om dit alles te kunnen zien.

5 Our days are not just filled with learning, teaching and visiting museums, we also enjoy exploring the surrounding area of Sesto Fiorentino and Florence. The pictures above show a secluded little waterfall the girls and I happened to find on one of our walks up the mountains that surround Sesto Fiorentino. The middle picture is what Sesto Fiorentino looks from up in the mountains. Not a bad spot to live, I’d say. Onze dagen zijn niet alleen gevuld met leren, lesgeven en bezoekjes aan museums, maar ook leuke wandel tochtjes rond Sesto Fiorentino en Florence. De foto’s zijn van een kleine waterval die de meiden en ik ontdekt hebben tijdens een wandeling in de bergen die rond Sesto Fiorentino liggen. De foto in het midden is hoe Sesto Fiorentino er uit ziet vanuit de bergen. Ja, zo zou ik best wel willen wonen.
